FAIRFIELD — Don’t be fooled by the GPS system directions for the colonial at 916 Sturges Highway, which tells motorists that this house is in Westport. It’s only half wrong, though. The house is actually located in Fairfield - the Greenfield Hill section to be specific, but it does have a Westport mailing address. It is that close to the neighboring town’s border.
It matters little which town the house is in. It’s a special property with a large pond that provides an opportunity for fishing in warm weather months and ice skating and hockey in winter. It is actually about the size and shape of a hockey rink. According to the listing agents the pond is man-made and dates back to Fairfield’s agricultural times when it was used to water animals and crops. But it’s not a true retention pond. It is fed by a small stream: Sasco Brook.
The pond has a fountain that goes on automatically every morning to help aerate the water body. At night lights automatically go on around the pond. There are benches on the pond to sit and relax.
The house was built in 1978 on a 2.38-acre level and sloping property.
